The intention of the Mass are special intentions offered to God as prayers of intercession and thanksgiving in and through the Eucharist.

An individual may ask a priest to offer a Mass for one of several reasons — thanksgiving, health-related concerns, birthdays, or as is most common, the repose of a soul of someone who has recently passed away.
